Blogs, Baseball, And the real Phil Campbell

GRASSROOTS has been turning up in all the best local blogs, with news reported of the film in Seattle Met’s urban bible, Culture Fiend.

“The buzz is all over town: Renowned director (and dad to Jake and Maggie) Stephen Gyllenhaal is here filming Grassroots, starring Joel David Moore and Jason Biggs.”

Co-star Joel David Moore comes in for some impenetrable retweeting on Culture Fiend:

joeldavidmoore @TheRealJordin (aka Jordin Sparks) Great hangin last night! We rocked Seattle, w cucumbers and green tennis balls. I love inside jokes on twitter.

In other news, Jason Biggs took the hill today at Safeco Field, throwing out the first – and best, from the looks of the box score – pitch against the Yankees. Evil Empire won, 8-2, bringing the first half of the season to a close. No report on whether the pitch was anywhere near the plate.

In other Biggs-baseball news, check out this ESPN page: see any resemblance?

Christopher McDonald wrapped his role in GRASSROOTS last week, but not before attracting every hardened grip on the crew to ask to pose for a picture with him.

And the real Phil Campbell was here from NY to visit the set, beguiling cast and crew with recollections of the Monorail election, his life in 2001, and his Phil Campbell convention.

The original Phil Campbell convention took place in 1995. The next Phil Campbell convention happens next year. It’s on the same schedule as the cicadas or something. And apparently, Jason Biggs has agreed to go as an honorary Phil Campbell.

Where is it?

Phil Campbell, Alabama.
